Every year I come up with “resolutions” that usually fizzle out halfway into January. Following through can be a huge downfall for me. I always come up with these elaborate plans like “I am going to work out every day” or “I am only going to eat healthy foods”. Oh, and my favorite….. “The only beverage I am going to drink is water”. I come up with these grand schemes knowing that I have no
That is why this year, I want to come up with ways that I can make

1. Go Out to Eat Once/Week
Chase and I love to go out to eat. So much that we tend to overdo how much we go out. During the week we are pretty good, we might order in once if we don’t feel like cooking. On the weekends though, we go absolutely nuts. Cooking at home doesn’t even feel like an option. We are always out and about and it is just easier to sit down at a restaurant and have someone else cook and serve our food for us. I calculated how much we spent per month going out to eat and the results made me cringe a little bit.
This is an area where we need to make a change. Financially and for our health, it feels smarter to set a goal for how much we go out to eat. Once per week will fill the desire to go out but give us a limit. One way to help make it easier will be to cook better meals at home. When we are looking forward to one of our home cooked meals it will be easier to stay home.
2. Prep for Weekly Meals on Sunday
This one goes hand in hand with going out to eat. If we cut the vegetables and prep all of the meals on Sunday, it would make weeknight cooking so much easier and faster. We have started the habit lately of making a crockpot soup on Sundays. While I have the cutting board out to cut up the vegetables for the soup, I plan to cut the rest of the vegetables for the week.
When I get home from work I will have time to relax before having to start cooking dinner. It will feel good to have the prep work already done for the week.
3. Make Juice for the Week on Sunday
Okay, I may be in the kitchen a lot on Sundays but it is going to make the rest of my week feel so good. I am a
I used to have a top of the line juicer. It maybe got used twice because it took a good hour to take it apart and clean it and I just didn’t have time for that. Surprisingly, I found out that I can make fresh juice with my Vitamix. This was a real game changer for me. Making juice changed from a 2-hour affair to taking less than 20 minutes. I throw all of my fruits and vegetables into the Vitamix with some water, mix it up, and run it through a fine mesh strainer and it’s done. I will usually add
4. Save $100/Week
Every Saturday, instead of spending $60 going out to eat, I am going to make an online transfer of $100 to my savings account. At the end of each month, that will feel a lot more satisfying than whatever unhealthy, most likely processed meal I could have eaten at a restaurant.
5. Stay Consistent with a Morning Routine
Having a consistent morning routine has been life-changing for me. It makes getting out of bed so much easier knowing I have activities to look forward to. It may sound cheesy but I feel like I can do anything after I drink a lot of water, stretch, and do other mindful activities to get me ready for the day. I have created a morning routine here that has worked for me the past few months. As I approach 2019 I would like to add and alter to this routine based on what I am needing.
6. Eat Plant-Based when Cooking at Home
My body feels best when I consume plant-based meals filled with leafy greens, nuts, and seeds. At home, I can control what ingredients are being used in my meals. When I go out, I am not going to be that person who asks if the asparagus I ordered is cooked in butter. I will do the best I can when going out to eat, but it isn’t worth it to me to be nitpicky.
I have a list of several vegan meals that I rotate through to keep things fresh at home. About once per week, we like to try new recipes. A newer recipe can sometimes take longer to prepare so one per week is good enough for us. If we love something we will add it to our rotation.
7. Order Splendid Spoon Once Per Month
Splendid Spoon is the foundation of staying on track with my health. About once per month, I like to order from them to give my body the

8. Make a Full Time Income Online
Time freedom is one of the most important goals I am reaching for right now. I love the idea of making a full-time income while being able to work when I want, wherever I want. For the past few months I have made close to my current full-time income, but it isn’t consistent. I would like to consistently make enough each month and maybe a little extra so if I have a low month I can still cover expenses.
The bulk of my online money making comes from blogging, teaching for VipKid, and rating Facebook ads for Appen. I am always looking for new ways to make money online so I can have the time freedom I have always dreamed of.
9. Remove Toxins from my Home
It sometimes feels like chemicals are everywhere. They are in makeup, cleaning products, food, drinks. The list goes on and on. A few years ago, I made the switch with my cleaning products. The brand of cleaning products I use is called Shaklee. Three years ago, I purchased their Basic Cleaning Concentrate for $19 and I am still using the SAME BOTTLE today. It is crazy how long this has lasted. I put a couple drops of the concentrate into a spray bottle and fill it with water and I have a multi-purpose cleaner. It is cheaper to use these non-toxic products than to purchase a new can of disinfectant every other week.
Another way I have removed toxins from my home is through my makeup and skincare. You wouldn’t believe the number of chemicals you are putting all over your face with typical makeup products. I went through a major makeup and skincare cleanout recently and I am already seeing the positive effects with my skin.
In 2019, I hope to go through everything and make sure any toxic chemicals are removed. Think shampoo, body wash, spices, etc…
10. Workout Consistently
This is one of the more cliche goals for a new year but it is something I really need to focus on. I always come up with these great workout plans and do them for one or two days and stop. I need to set realistic fitness goals for myself. I know I am not going to work out every day so I may as well not even pretend that is something I am going to do. My goal this year is to workout 3 times a week for 30 minutes. It isn’t a ton, but it is better than nothing and is realistic enough that I can achieve it.
There we have it! 10 ways to make realistic and positive changes in 2019. I am going to work hard to stay consistent with these goals and am excited to give an update in December 2019.
Comment below some positive changes you’re wanting to make this coming year.
Happy New Year!
