Mal’s Thoughts: Imperfect Foods Review ($80 Off!)
Thanks to Covid, I got out of the wonderful habit of cooking most of my meals at home. For about a year, I used the excuse of “well I need to support local restaurants and order out for every meal” so that I didn’t have to cook. At some point, I was like, okay…I need to make a change. My friend told me about Imperfect Foods and I thought….why not give it a try. I wanted to do an Imperfect Foods review because I know a lot of people who read my stuff like to eat healthily and this is how I got back on track with cooking more at home.

Honestly, I always thought Imperfect Foods was just produce that looked a little damaged so they could sell it at a cheaper rate. To my surprise, it is much more! They have meats, snacks, inexpensive seafood (which I couldn’t be more thrilled about), coffee, drinks, seasoning, AND their own signature items. Do you know how Trader Joe’s has their own signature items that are for some reason better than other places? Imperfect Foods does that too. I will obviously give you the low down on some of my favorites!
Produce

The point of Imperfect Foods is that the food is less expensive because it is a little damaged or an incorrect size. To be honest, I have never noticed any significant damage to any of the produce I have received. What is nice, is that when you order food, it tells you why it is being sold through their company. So underneath the picture of the food item, it will say things such as “too big”, “too small”, “too much quantity”, “discolored”, …etc. Again, I have never noticed anything be too damaged to where I noticed in the slightest.
Using Imperfect Foods has also helped me to branch out with produce that I try. Each week, they make my grocery list for me. I can add or delete whatever I want but sometimes I will take a look at what they chose to see if there is anything new I want to try. The broccolini came in my first box and I had never tried it before. I like it more than regular broccoli and I feel like it doesn’t make as much of a mess when I cut it up.
Signature Items I love
Snacky-Snack Mixy-Mix

The #1 signature item from Imperfect Foods is 100% the “Snacky-Snack Mixy-mix.” It is worth trying Imperfect Foods out for this item alone. I am not a huge “sweets” person but this has a small amount of sweet but mostly salty. Beware though because it is a touch addictive. I usually allow myself one bag of these per month so I can spread it out throughout the month. Otherwise, I could put down an entire bag in one day.
Dried Mango
The “Dried Mango” is another favorite of mine. I am mad at myself because I don’t have a picture of it while I write this. I usually add this to every other order because it takes me about 2 weeks to get through the bag. It is *simply delightful*. This is one of those foods that satisfies the sweet tooth without having to eat candy.
Chocolate Covered Everything

The bag of “Chocolate Covered Everything” is the bomb.com. Sometimes, after dinner, I just need a littttttttttle something chocolate. This is perfect because I will just grab 2 or 3 of these chocolate-coated pieces and it satisfies my need. It’s also nice because it is kind of a surprise what you’re going to get. You could get English toffee, caramel popcorn, almonds, or pretzels covered in chocolate. It’s pretty delicious if I do say so myself.
Nona Lim Pad Thai Stir Fry Kit

Okay okay, this isn’t technically a signature item but I have only seen it being sold through Imperfect Foods. I love this kit because it is the quickest and easiest way to make pad Thai. The noodles take about 45 seconds to cook in the microwave. Usually, I will throw them in with some chicken and broccoli and call it good. The sauce they send for the pad Thai is one of the better sauces I have had too. For a cheap/easy/healthy meal….I would recommend adding this to your box.
Other Imperfect Foods products I love
There are many products that I get at Imperfect Foods that I wouldn’t normally buy at the store. Some of these items include:
- Mahi Mahi
- Farro (rice alternative that is better for you)
- Gnocchi
- Pears (I hadn’t had a pear since I was a kid and I got one in my first box and have been addicted ever since)
- Seasoning for Everything (signature seasoning created by Imperfect Foods)
- Salmon (It’s so expensive at the store but I can get it every week at Imperfect Foods prices)
- Jojoba face oil (yes they sell face creams and oils and it’s *all natural*)
- Artichokes
That is just to name a few. Again, I feel like overall I eat a lot healthier because their food is meant to be healthy and all-natural. It gets delivered to my house each week and shipped for free. I use this for probably 95% of my grocery shopping. Sometimes I have to get a few things at the store that Imperfect Foods doesn’t offer but that doesn’t happen a lot. Shipping is free if you spend over $60, which is easy to do even for one person.
Also, did I mention how easy it is to skip a week or change your schedule? Very easy. So again, nothing to lose!
If you’re looking for a convenient and inexpensive option for grocery shopping I would recommend using Imperfect Foods.

Wow! This is cool! I really wouldn’t mind having a little imperfections at a lower price. As long as they are still edible and good for cooking all good!
Great recipe I may have to replace the farro with a Israeli couscous since my husband can not eat faro.
You’re not wrong about that snack mix. that stuff is ADDICTIVE. it’s dangerously good.
